A Study in Paper No. 2: Honestly Mycroft He's Not Listening

More Sherlock BBC paper-cutting.

This one was a real nail-biter. No. 1 may have been designed partly on the fly, but No. 2 quickly turned out to be a "plan every millimeter" sort of affair. The tricky bit was handling all the overlapping elements: his fingers on top of the strings on top of the violin's neck on top of the violin's body on top of his shirt.

I had fun doing Sherlock's hair.

Done on a sheet of 8.75" x 8" paper.

Thanks! No I've never cut myself. One thing that helps is to have a sharp blade, because with a dull one you have to use more force, and you might lose control of it.

Also...just cut slowly, don't press hard on the knife, and if you're holding the paper down with your other hand, make sure that hand is off to one side of the knife's path.

You can find small exacto knives at crafts/hobby stores or sometimes even hardware stores. The ones I use are light/slim, about 5 inches long (not counting blade). I like the kind where you can slide the blade out, because I like to close it every time I set down the knife, and with practice I can do that one-handed. Other people prefer the kind where you screw a small blade into the handle (also at crafts/hobby stores) because the blades may be better quality. There's also a craft knife with a tiny ceramic blade, which (in my opinion) works well if you're cutting a freehand design. It depends on which you feel works better for you.

Me, I've been out of school a long time and am working. I'm self-taught for this kind of paper art, and it's a hobby of mine. Good luck with your art.
